The AGM was held on the 20th May 2010 twenty three members attended the 93rd meeting at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. All current officers were unanimously voted for a further years service and Brian McMillan was voted in as President and Margaret West was thanked for her service during the last two years.

The SGT 2009 meeting will be held at Lancaster University 16th - 18th September, this includes Science Sessions, Technology Sessions, History and Heritage, New Researchers, and an Opto-Electronics Workshop further details can be found following this link.

 

 

The AGM was held on the 28th May 2009 thirty two members attended the 92nd meeting on a narrow boat in Sheffield. All current officers were unanimously voted for a further years service and Brian McMillan was voted in as President Designate. Photographs here.

2008 AGM was held Thursday 15th May 36 enjoyed an evening at the Fat Cat Pub and toured the Brewery. Dr David Martlew was thanked for his term in presidency and Mrs Margaret West was voted as our new President.

New for 2006 Special Interest Group - Structure of Amorphous Materials - now has the papers from the workshops that took place at the ESG meeting in Sunderland on line.

The 2007 AGM took place on Wednesday 23rd May 6.30pm at the:
Turner Museum, E floor, Dept of Engineering Materials, Portobello Street, Sheffield
nine members then enjoyed meal together at La Mancha.

Turner Memorial Lecture this year will take place on Thursday 10th May 2007 at St George’s Church Lecture Theatre, when Emeritus Professor Michael Cable will give his lecture, entitled “The Development of Glass Melting Furnaces and South Yorkshire’s Crucial Role”.

2006 Annual Meeting

The 8th ESG Conference on Glass Science and Technology was held on 10-14th September 2006. This International conference was attended by 394 delegates. The scope of the conference was to promote glass science and technology, in particular to enhance interactions among experts working on diverse areas such as glass manufacturing, glass archaeology, art and environment issues, as well as glass science and applications. The 2006 annual meeting is to be held in Sunderland and incorporate the ESG and ICG meetings.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the conference a success, the proceedings will be available in next years June and August journals, all paying delegates will receive the proceedings as published.

The 2006 AGM was attended by 26 members our new president.
Dr David Martlew was appointed, as Dr John Parker steps down. A big thank you to Dr John Parker for all he has done over the last two years, and a big welcome to Dr David Martlew.

 

Furnace Solutions was held on 25th May 2006
This one-day conference was attended by 60+ delegates, presentations covered all aspects of glass melting  - from raw materials and cullet to furnace design and operation, energy efficiency and pollution control. A big thank you to CERAM for all their help. The presentations will be available on the web for attendees shortly.

The SGT has signed an agreement with DGG to combine their journals for 2006 into two European Journals

 

The Society's Annual General Meeting was held on 18 May 2005. We are pleased to inform everyone that four students from the USA were presented with cheques in support of their studies whilst in the UK (presentation) The AGM was followed by a meal at a local restaurant which was enjoyed by 18 members visit here for highlights of the evening.

 

Minutes of the A&P committee's March meeting are now available on the members only area of the web site.  We are hoping this will become a regular feature.

The SGT’s 2005 Annual Conference successfully took place at University of Sheffield. The theme for the conference was “Glass: Past, Present and Future” and started with the New Researchers’ Forum on Glass and finished with the History and Heritage of Glass, on Saturday. Approximately 140 delgates attended during the three day conference and 45 attended the History & Heritage on the Saturday, Friday saw the celebration of the work of Prof Michael Cable and Prof Helmut Schaeffer. We were supported by many sponsors who attended with exhibitions and we extend our thanks to them all.
